The Doxology
Doxology | dox·ol·o·gy | /däkˈsäləjē/
praise offered to God in Christian worship.
humanity’s right response to God’s self-revelation in word and deed.
“[T]he Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” (Genesis 2:7) Humanity begins with a gift from God. The divine breath of God becomes the very source of life. Thus, life begins as a gift. As the community of God we orient ourselves towards gratitude. We recognize that everything around us is offered and sustained by the Creating-God (James 1:17). Every breath we take, every sense we experience, and every relationship we enjoy is a gift from a generous and good God. Thus, we sing;
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow
Praise Him, all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Amen, amen, amen, amen.
