Advent
As the Christmas season approaches, the Church prepares to remember the humble arrival of our King. In the rhythms of the Church calendar, this season is called Advent, a word that means “coming.” Like the Israelites in exile, we wait for our Messiah to return and “make all things new” (Rev. 21:5), even as we look back and remember that God became flesh (Phil. 2:5–11; John 1:1–5) on that first Christmas. Because Christ has come once, we can joyfully and confidently anticipate His coming again—the two arrivals are inseparably linked.
