Holistic Justice
It is our conviction that justice in the scripture is about becoming a particular kind of community; justice is the shape of the Christian community. To be sure justice is active, but it begins as an identity that we as the Church of God learn to live out; we are learning to become God’s just people. We are deeply convicted that it is our task to “serve as the best example of what God can do with the human community” (Stanley Hauerwas).

Working toward the welfare of our neighbor.
Justice, Mercy, and Humility.
Micah 6:8 stands out as an essential text in the biblical canon;
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8 ESV
In a moment of religious confusion (see Micah 6:1-7), God desires from his people what he has always desired; to establish justice for all people, to cherish the image of God present in all people, and to prioritize life with Him.
This verse specifically, and Micah’s book generally, are a relevant reminder that displays of religious enthusiasm are incomplete offerings if we do not live a life of establishing justice for the oppressed and living in the mercy of God. Our worship is incomplete unless we are working towards the betterment of our neighbor or said differently, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart… and love your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:27 ESV).
At Midtown Church we define our pursuit of Justice by the life of Jesus and the Christian tradition. We aim to work towards the holistic well-being of everyone we come across. Our simple aim is to reveal the Kingdom of Jesus as we work towards the welfare of our neighbors.
